Car Parking in NYC

Parking is a big nuisance for motorists in New York City. Not only are the parking rules very strict, motorist have to compete for good parking spaces every day. Moreover, parking fees in New York City are expensive, and you’ll likely pay at an hourly rate. Other states will ask you to pay for a 3-hour rate and just pay the excess minutes that you accumulate. This is the everyday ordeal of New Yorkers when it comes to driving and parking, which is why they always try to find cheap car parking in NYC.

You can choose metered parking or opt for garage parking instead. If you plan to get cheap car parking in NYC, metered parking will not be an option, as standard fees apply. They usually charge $1 to $3 per hour depending on the location. Nonetheless, this doesn’t mean that parking in a garage is always cheaper. There are certain parking garages that have more affordable rates while some are much more expensive than metered parking. Again, the rates will depend on the location. There are 5 boroughs in New York City and here is a compiled list of cheap car parking in NYC that you can check out.

Bronx and Brooklyn

In the Bronx, you can park at several places that offer good rates.

  • Belmont in 186th street. Their rates are $0.25 per 15 minutes and you can park from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. They have a 3-hour parking limit and have a total of 57 spaces with 3 handicap parking spaces.
  • White Plains Road. Located between Maran Place and Brady Avenue, this parking field has a total of 94 parking spaces and 5 spaces for the handicapped. There are 15 spaces with a 4-hour limit at a rate of $0.25 per 20 minutes. There are 23 spaces with 12-hour limits with the same rate.

In Brooklyn, there are plenty of parking garages to choose from. These two are the cheapest ones:

  • Avenue M in East 17th St. It can accommodate 4-hour and 12-hour parking limits and the rate is $0.25 per 20 minutes.
  • Bensonhurst#1 in 86th Street is another big parking garage offering the same rates.

Queens and Staten Island

  • Queens Village offers parking spaces at $0.25 per 20 minutes. It is located in Jamaica Avenue and is open from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Short-term and long-term parking are available.
  • Rosedale in East Francis Lewis Blvd. It offers 164 spaces and is open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The same rate applies.
  • Great Kills and New Dorp (located in New Dorp Lane) in Staten Island offer parking from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Both charge $0.25 per 20 minutes for short-term and long-term parking.

Manhattan

You can expect parking in Manhattan to be pretty expensive. The cheapest parking garage you’ll see is Broome and Ludlow and it charges $0.50 for 15 minutes. Others will charge $2.50 to $3.00 per hour.
